Reading your own numbers honestly
A MetaTrader report tells you whether you made money. It does not tell you whether you made money for a repeatable reason. These are the figures that answer that question.
Profit factor
Gross profit divided by gross loss. Under 1.0 the account loses. Between 1.1 and 1.3 is fragile — a wider spread or one bad week erases it. 1.5 to 2.0 is a genuinely good system. Far above 2.0 with only a handful of trades usually means the sample is too small, or that losses are being hidden by holding them open.
Expectancy
Average profit per trade. It is the single most useful number here, because it combines win rate and reward-to-risk into one figure. A 35% win rate is perfectly healthy if the average win is three times the average loss.
Maximum drawdown
The largest fall from a peak in your balance curve. Judge it against your own tolerance: a strategy with a 30% drawdown will be abandoned by most people at the worst possible time, no matter what the final return says. On a prop-firm account, compare it directly with your allowed drawdown.
Streaks
The longest losing streak tells you what you have to be able to sit through. If your worst streak was eight and you risk 2% per trade, that is a 15% hole — and the next streak may be longer than the last one.
